The NTPC, in collaboration with the UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL), a public sector undertaking, is embarking on the establishment of an additional thermal plant in the state and enhancing the capacity of an existing facility. The Cabinet has already endorsed the proposal for the creation of the 1,600 MW Obra D thermal power plant through a joint venture with UPRVUNL. This envisioned plant will comprise two advanced units, each boasting a capacity of 800 MW, and is slated for completion within the next five to six years. Furthermore, NTPC has initiated a feasibility study for the installation of another 1,600 MW (2×800) plant at Anpara D, in collaboration with UPRVUNL. The expansion plan also extends to the existing Meja thermal plant, aiming to augment it by incorporating two 800 MW units. The Meja plant, situated in Prayagraj district, currently operates at 2×660 MW and is a joint venture with UPRVUNL.
