The first Bullet Train, or the High Speed Rail project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, is only about 30% complete as of January 2023. The Government has set August 2026 as the target period for the start of the trial run between Surat and Billimora segment in Gujarat. The entire stretch between Ahmedabad and Mumbai is expected to be operational in 2027. The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the organisation in charge of carrying out the project, and the associated construction firms are working towards completing the project before schedule. Up to this point, the project has cost a total of Rs 37,000 crore. The project’s financial progress is currently at 31%. So far, the NHSRCL is yet to invite the tenders for rolling stock.
