Coal Ministry allows mined land for setting up power plants

The Coal Ministry has issued policy recommendations for the use of more than 7,900 acres of mined or de-coaled land for a variety of purposes, including thermal and renewable energy power plants, coal bed methane (CBM) extraction units, washeries, and coal to chemical plants. The Coal Ministry issued policy guidelines on April 22 for land-owning PSUs and coal PSUs to provide leases to government and private sector entities. The plan had already been approved by the Union Cabinet on April 13.
