NTPC's Urban Waste to Charcoal Plant in Varanasi Begins Operations

NTPC’s Urban Waste to Charcoal Plant in Varanasi has commenced operations following its inauguration in February 2024. Currently undergoing testing, the plant is converting 50 metric tons of waste into green charcoal daily. Situated in the Ramana area of Varanasi, this pioneering ‘waste-to-charcoal plant’ is slated to enter full operation soon, with the capacity to process 600 metric tons of waste into 200 metric tons of coal daily. Once fully operational, the plant will contribute significantly to waste management and charcoal production in Varanasi, demonstrating NTPC’s commitment to sustainable solutions and environmental stewardship.
