The Sivok-Rangpo New Rail Line Project, connecting West Bengal to Sikkim, is a crucial infrastructural endeavor aimed at fostering development and enhancing connectivity in the region. Branching off from the New Jalpaiguri-Alipurduar-Samuktala Road line at Sivok railway station, this project traverses through Kalimpong district in West Bengal and Pakyong District in Sikkim, spanning diverse landscapes including the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary and crossing rivers like the Teesta and Rangpo. Initiated in 2009, the project faced delays, pushing its completion date to December 2024 with a revised budget. Once completed, it promises to significantly boost connectivity for Sikkim, serving as a catalyst for economic growth and prosperity in the landlocked state.
