Construction on JJ Hospital’s super specialty hospital building, which began three years ago, is facing delays, with only 24% of the work completed, missing the July 20 deadline. The state medical education department and public works department are now considering whether to extend the contractor’s timeline or appoint a new contractor. Once finished, the new building will add 1,200 beds to the current 1,200, making JJ Hospital the largest in Mumbai. The ten-storey building with two basements, estimated at ?700 crore, will house various specialty departments, including cardiovascular, neurosurgery, paediatric, urology, gastroenterology, and others, as well as a VVIP ward.
