The Coastal Road project is being carried out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in two phases. A cost estimate of Rs 12,500 crore is being used to construct the first phase. Connecting Bandra Sea Link to Kandivali Junction is the second phase. This stretch of construction has not yet started. In South Mumbai, between Priyadarshini Park and Marine Drive, twin tunnels measuring 12 metres wide would be built beneath Malabar Hill, which is 75 metres deep, and Girgaum Chowpatty, which is 25 metres deep. From Priyadarshi Park to Chhoti Chowpatty on Marine Drive, each is 2.07 kilometres long. The Mumbai coastline road, which is now under construction, is scheduled to open to traffic by December 2023 with 57% of the project’s overall work completed and significant progress made on the project’s challenging tunnelling component.
