Coal India plans to open Siarmal mine in Odisha

Coal India intends to open the new Siarmal mine in Odisha’s eastern region. The mine is intended to be one of India’s largest of its sort. The infrastructure for the Siarmal open cast mine, which is being built in a partially forested location, was in the works. Production would begin in the third quarter of this year, with an annualised pace of around 2 million to 5 million tonnes. Production would ramp up progressively over the next five to seven years, reaching a capacity of 50 million tonnes. In the fiscal year that ends in March 2023, Coal India expects to open two more mines with a combined annual capacity of 7 million tonnes.
