The metro rail project for the city of Coimbatore will be implemented by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL). French consulting firm Systra MVA has conducted the feasibility study of the proposed metro rail project in Coimbatore. The feasibility study has identified four corridors covering a total distance of 136 km as part of the project. The first corridor will come up between Ukkadam and Kaniyur. The second corridor is planned between Ukkadam and Bilichi near Karamadai on the Mettupalayam Road. The third corridor will come up between Thanneerpandal on Thadagam Road and Karanampettai on Trichy Road, while the fourth will be constructed between Karunya Nagar and Ganeshapuram. In February, 2020, CMRL proposed a fifth corridor connecting Vellolore to Ukkadam. The work is expected to start by December 2020.
