The Uttar Pradesh government announces plans to invest over Rs 18,000 crore in a coal-fired thermal power plant, ‘Anpara E,’ located in Sonbhadra district. The project, undertaken by Meja Utpadan Nigam Private Limited—a joint venture of NTPC and UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL)—aims to bolster electricity production in the state. With a proposed capacity of 1,600 Megawatts, the project aligns with the Government of India’s efforts to support funding for new coal-fired thermal power plants amidst rising electricity demand. The UPRVUNL Board has approved the Anpara E unit, signaling a significant step forward in the project.
