Indian Oil Corporation is set to embark on a groundbreaking project, with plans to build a sustainable aviation fuel plant worth Rs 1,000 crore ($122 million). This strategic move comes in response to the substantial global shortfall in aviation fuel supplies required by airlines to meet their decarbonization targets. The state-of-the-art facility will boast an impressive production capacity of 88,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel per year. Indian Oil aims to collaborate with other leading oil companies to ensure the success of this venture. Located at Indian Oil’s Panipat refinery, situated north of New Delhi, the plant will employ cutting-edge alcohol-to-jet technology, developed by LanzaJet. If realized, this ambitious project will mark India’s maiden sustainable aviation fuel facility.
