Kolkata Metro plans to increase its solar power plant capacity by 2792 Kwp (kilowatt peak) in the fiscal year 2024. The construction of these solar power plants is being carried out through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The metro railway authorities have provided the rooftop areas, while the solar power developer is responsible for the design, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning work. The solar power plants have been installed at seven metro stations, including Noapara, Dum Dum, Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, Kavi Subhash, Salt Lake Sector V, Central Park, and Central Park Depot. Currently, the Metro Railway generates 2189.50 Kwp of solar power. This includes 657 Kwp on the North-South Corridor, 1519 Kwp on the East-West Corridor, and 13.5 Kwp at Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital of Metro Railway.
