In a written response to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Civil Aviation Gen. (Dr) V. K. Singh, the Minister of State for the Ministry of Civil Aviation, recently stated that the development of new airports over the next five years includes the construction of Greenfield Airports at Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra, Vijayapura, and Hassan in Karnataka, Noida (Jewar) in Uttar Pradesh, Dholera and Hirasar in Gujarat, and Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh. Apart from this, the development projects being carried out at the airports in Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Guwahati, Ahmedabad, and Mangaluru are included in the modernization and upgrading work at existing Brownfield Airports. In accordance with the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) infrastructure initiative, the government also intends to build 100 airports by 2024.
