To minimise reliance on coal-fired power plants, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (Tangedco) aims to produce 20000 MW of solar power in the state during the next ten years. The power company has already hired AECOM India, a private technical consulting firm, to provide a project report in four months. AECOM India has already commenced studies on available land, substation locations, transformers, transmission lines, and power storage batteries.
