Kerala is set to launch its first grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Mylatti, Kasaragod. The 125 MW/500 MWh project, supported by Rs 135 crore under the VGF scheme, will store surplus solar energy and discharge it during peak demand, improving grid stability. Scheduled for commissioning in 18 months, the project will operate under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with additional BESS projects planned in the state.
