Six consulting firms have submitted bids to draft the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed metro corridor connecting Koyambedu to Avadi in northwest Chennai. Spanning 16.07 km, this elevated metro route will pass through key areas like Thirumangalam, Mugappair, and Ambattur, featuring a total of 15 elevated stations. Tentatively planned as an extension of Chennai Metro’s Line-5, part of the ongoing Chennai Metro Phase 2 project, the feasibility of the Koyambedu-Avadi stretch was previously assessed in detail by L&T Infrastructure Engineering. The estimated construction cost is approximately Rs. 6376.18 crore. Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) initiated the DPR consultant selection process in February 2024, with a 180-day deadline for submissions.
