State-owned Central Coalfields Ltd is contemplating a partnership with the Jharkhand government for the next phase of expanding Tenughat Thermal Power Station. Currently, the station boasts a total capacity of 420 MW, with two units of 210 MW each. The first unit commenced operations in September 1996, followed by the second in September 1997. Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Limited (TVNL) plans to enhance the station with 2X660 MW coal-fired supercritical units for Stage II of the extension project.
