Coal India Limited (CIL) is in the process of turning its closed mines into eco-parks, which are now well-liked as eco-tourism hotspots. The local population is finding that these eco-parks and tourist destinations can be a means of support. There are already 30 of these eco-parks in operation, and plans are in the works to build additional eco-parks and eco-restoration sites in the mining regions of CIL.
