The Andhra Pradesh government is putting the two-stage Yeleru Reservoir Project (YRP) In the village of Yeleswaram in the East Godavari district. According to the Water Resources Department, the YRP irrigates more than 2.2 lakh acres in the Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts in addition to providing water to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP). A total of 24.10 tmc ft of water can be stored in the two phases of the project. To finish the project, the state government recently approved Rs 292 crore. Out of this, a total of Rs 142 crore will be used to finish the first phase of the project’s unfinished modernization work worth 40 percent and Rs 150 crore for the second.
