Uttar Pradesh government builds 104 sewage treatment plants with a capacity of more than 3000 MLD

In order to clean the state’s major rivers, including the Ganga, the Uttar Pradesh government has built 104 sewage treatment plants with a total capacity of 3,298.84 million litres per day (MLD). According to the state administration, the water quality of the Ganga, Gomti, Saryu, Yamuna, and Rapti rivers has greatly improved. Anupshahr city, which is near to the Ganga, received a sewage treatment facility and sewerage line as part of the Namami Gange programme. This helped to stop the contaminated water from entering the river. The sewerage line was installed at a cost of Rs 78 crore. Dredging was also done in the Gomti river in Lucknow to remove the silt that had accumulated on the surface. To treat the sewer water of the GH Canal (Haider Canal) in the river, a 120 MLD sewage treatment facility is being built. The 128-year-old Sisamau Nala in Kanpur has been totally blocked. It used to be a major source of river Ganga contamination. The programme to prevent sewage from spilling into rivers going through the cities of Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra, Loni, Saharanpur, Bijnor, Pilkhua, Muzaffarnagar, Rampur, Gorakhpur, Sultanpur, and Ayodhya has been completed.
