The Supreme Court of India has given the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) permission to award contracts for the upgrade of sewage treatment plants (STPs). While expressing satisfaction with the project’s progress, the supreme court ordered the civic body to award tenders to the lowest bidders by May 31. For more than a decade, the project has been on hold. The BMC has finalised seven contractors for seven STPs under the Mumbai Sewage Disposal Project-II (MSDP-II), who have agreed to complete the job for ?25,963.32 crore. Worli, Dharavi, Bandra, Versova, Malad, Ghatkopar, and Bhandup would be home to seven sewage treatment plants with a daily capacity of 2,464 million litres. While six STPs will be updated, a new STP will be built at Dharavi.
