Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways’ flagship programme, Sagarmala, aims to encourage port-led development in India by leveraging the country’s 7,500 km of coastline, 14,500 km of potentially navigable waterways, and strategic placement on key international maritime trade routes. The Sagarmala Program’s major goal is to lower logistical costs for EXIM and local commerce while investing minimally in infrastructure. In the state of Andhra Pradesh, under the Sagarmala Programme 119 projects totaling more than Rs 1 lakh crore have been identified. The projects will focus on infrastructure improvements related to port-led industrialization, port modernization, port connectivity enhancement, coastal community development, and inland waterways. Central Ministries, lWAl, Indian Railways, NHAI, State Governments, and Major Ports, among others, implement these projects.
