India's Road Project Awards Poised for Growth in FY25

India’s road project awards are set to gain significant momentum in FY25, as indicated by a report from Axis Securities. The report highlights a robust bidding pipeline worth ?1.1 trillion as of September 2024, primarily driven by two major project types: hybrid annuity model (HAM) and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects.

HAM projects constitute 47% of the total pipeline, while EPC projects account for approximately 36%. These two models are expected to dominate project awards in the upcoming year, with a potential increase in the share of build-operate-transfer (BOT)-Toll projects as well.

The report notes that the acceleration in project awards is largely due to a shortfall of awarded projects in FY24, which is anticipated to be offset by a surge in activity during FY25. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has already established a strong pipeline of tenders, supporting the expected increase in project awards.
