To meet the growing requirement of containers, the Government of India has decided to develop Bhavnagar in Gujarat as a container hub. The Centre has identified 10 places in Bhavnagar for its production as a pilot project. The country currently needs about 3.5 lakh containers every year and is dependent on China for its requirement. The private players are likely to invest Rs.1000 crore in this regard.
