A plan for the redevelopment of three major railway stationsNew Delhi, Ahmedabad, and CSMT Mumbaiwas approved by the Union Cabinet in the recent past. The stations will be equipped with modern infrastructure and enhanced amenities to handle growing passenger traffic at an estimated total investment of close to Rs 10,000 crore. Green building techniques will be used to redesign these stations, incorporating solar power, water conservation/recycling, and increased tree cover. Along with other things, they will be integrated with other forms of transit like the bus and the metro. A large roof plaza with all passenger amenities in one location, as well as areas for shops, cafeterias, and recreation centres, will also be part of the design.
