The Prime Minister of India had laid the foundation stone for three railway station redevelopment projects in Kerala worth Rs 1,059 crore in September 2022. The Kuruppanthara-Kottayam-Chingavanam stretch of the Indian Railways’ 27-km double line, completed at a cost of Rs 750 crore, is one of the projects that was officially opened. Additionally, special train services between Kottayam-Ernakulam and Kollam-Punalur were flagged. To increase connectivity in the state, the Center is spending Rs 55,000 crore on expanding National Highway 66. The Kuruppanthara-Kottayam-Chingavanam section of the railway has been entirely doubled, doubling the length of the 634 km stretch from Thiruvananthapuram to Mangaluru in Karnataka.
