Editor's Note | Indian Railways: Building world class stations

In mission mode, Indian Railways’ freight loading and earnings for the first seven months of this fiscal year 2022–23 have surpassed those of the same period in the previous year. In comparison to last year’s loading of 786.2 MT, a total freight loading of 855.63 MT has been reached from April through October 2022, an increase of almost 9%. The railways made ₹92345 crore as opposed to ₹78921 crore the previous year, a 17% increase. The Indian railways generally offset their losses in running passenger trains by running freight services and by tapping non fare revenue. The Indian Railways has started a massive transformation drive to build world class railway stations. The Government of India’s Railway Station Redevelopment Program, a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative, aims to renovate 400 railway stations around the country for ₹1 lakh crore. The program focusses on improving passenger amenities by leveraging real estate available with railways to fund the development. We have covered redevelopment of Secunderabad railway station in this issue apart from covering 200+ projects, contracts, and tenders.
