Second airport in Chennai proposed at Parandur

A greenfield airport is proposed to come up at Parandur, 59 km from the existing airport, at an estimated cost of Rs 20,000 crore. The existing airport has an annual passenger handling capacity of 2.2 crore. The second greenfield airport would have an annual capacity of handling 10 crore passengers. The airport site near Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram district is estimated to be spread across 4000 acre. The airport will have two runways among other amenities.
