With the exception of underground Metro Line 3, all other Metro lines are being implemented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The Metro Line 5A, which is intended to run between Bhiwandi and Kalyan, is awaiting approval from the state government to go underground, according to MMRDA. This will prevent the demolition of existing buildings, which would require significant compensation. The cost of the project will go up by Rs. 600700 crore due to the underground metro line.
