Indian Railways has started an ambitious project to electrify its entire broad gauge network, which will not only improve fuel efficiency and increase throughput while lowering fuel costs and conserving precious foreign exchange. According to a recent statement from the Ministry of Railways, Indian Railways accomplished 851 Route Kilometers (RKMs) from October 2022 to September 2022 as opposed to 562 RKMs during the same time in FY 202122. It is 51.4% higher than the equivalent period’s results from the prior year. 6500 RKMs is the number of RKMs that must be electrified throughout this fiscal year. As of 30.09.2022, 53,098 BG RKM, or 81.51% of the overall BG network, have been electrified out of 65,141 RKM of the BG network of IR (including KRCL).
