India’s four state-owned companies intend to construct coal-to-chemical facilities as part of the government’s goal to use 100 million tonnes of coal annually for gasification by 2030. As part of the strategy, Coal India Ltd. (CIL), Indian Oil Corp. (IOC), Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL), and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) would work together to build the projects and establish the surface coal gasification projects. The projects will transform coal into syngas, which can then be processed to manufacture value-added chemicals downstream using imported natural gas or crude oil.
