India’s food processing sector is pegged to be the largest in the world. The sector is projected to add nine million jobs by 2024. The Union Government has announced and undertakes various policy measures in this regard. The government is implementing schemes to support and boost the food processing sector. Many state governments are also joining hands in this mission. The Andhra Pradesh Government plans to establish food processing units in all 26 districts, at an estimated cost of ₹3450 crore. CM has recently announced that the foundation stones will be laid soon for the construction of ten food processing units at a cost of ₹1250 crore. He has recently inaugurated ITC’s Global Spices Processing facility Phase-I. The unit has come up at a cost ₹200 crore. The unit is likely to enhance Farmer’s income, lead to women empowerment, and make use of clean energy for its operations. As our economy is primary agragrian, we need more such food processing centres which can help our farmers to get best value of their
agricultural produce and also avoid food wastage.
