Trichy Airport Project

The Airports Authority of India has taken up Trichy Airport expansion project, comprising a new integrated passenger terminal building, a new apron, an air traffic control (ATC) tower, and upgrading air side facilities. The terminal building would cost ?951.28 crore, and is intended to handle 2900 passengers during peak hour. The terminal will be an environmentally friendly structure with energy-saving measures in place. The terminal will have 48 check-in counters and 10 boarding bridges. The project also includes new apron, associated taxiways, isolation bay to make the airport suitable for five wide- body (Code E) or 10 narrow body aircraft (Code C). The other projects include the construction of a Control Room, supporting Equipment Rooms, Terminal RADAR, RADAR simulation, Automation facilities, VHF, AAI offices and Meteorological offices. The four-lane elevated access road will connect the Terminal Building to the city. As of May 2022, more than 75% of the construction work for terminal building is completed and the project will be ready by April 2023.
