The Indian Railways has awarded a contract to Hyderabad-based Medha Servo Drives for the conversion of one Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) rake on the Sonipat-Jind line from diesel to hydrogen fuel. At a cost of almost Rs 70 crore, Medha will create hydrogen fuel cell-based technology that can be utilised to improve existing diesel-powered trains. The project involves retrofitting DEMU in the 89-kilometre Sonipat-Jind stretch.
