567 projects identified under convergence mode for holistic development of Coastal districts

Building on the success of the Sagarmala Programme, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has prepared a strategy for “Holistic Development of Coastal Districts” under the Sagarmala Programme. Following several engagements with stakeholders, he told the media after the National Sagarmala Apex Committee (NSAC) meeting that the Ministry has identified a total of 567 projects under convergence method with an estimated cost of ?58,700 crore. While Sagarmala is port-led and focuses on logistics cost reduction and EXIM competitiveness, Holistic Development of Coastal Districts intends to fill infrastructural gaps along the coast and boost economic opportunities, according to him. With the addition of projects identified in the Holistic Development of Coastal Districts and additional project proposals submitted under Sagarmala, the minister said the total number of projects worth ?6.5 lakh crore now stands at 1537.
