Major infrastructure projects such as transit dorms at Nampally Sarai, storm water box drains from Nagole to Musi River, auxiliary works at Katedan Sports Complex, animal crematoriums, and so on were approved recently by the GHMC standing committee. Under the Safe City Project, which was authorized by the committee, it has earmarked Rs 11 crore for the construction of transit dorms with 187 beds for women at Nampally Sarai. The old, outdated buildings and office spaces will be demolished to make way for transit dorms. The committee has set aside Rs 5 crore to reconstruct and upgrade the storm water drain connecting Saki Cheruvu and Gangaram Cheruvu surplus drain. At Katedan Sports Complex, Rs 5.9 crore has been set aside for auxiliary works such as the operation of the swimming pool and indoor stadium, as well as infrastructural projects such as the laying of roads, storm water drains, and sewer lines.
