The Government of India has proposed an increase of about 30 per cent in the budget allocation to the highways sector for the next financial year. An enhanced outlay of more than INR 1,18,000 crore has been provided for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The finance minister has recently said that more than 13000 km length of roads has already been awarded under the Bharatmala Pariyojana of which 3800 km have been constructed. The Government plans to initiate the work on the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor in the current financial year. The work on the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway project, construction for Amritsar-Jamnagar and Delhi-Katra road projects will also commence in 2021-22.
