AAI plans to build Ludhiana international airport at Halwara. All operations from Sahnewal airport will shift to Halwara on completion. Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) is in the process of acquiring and handing over land to AAI. The work for soil testing and environment impact assessment is already awarded, and tenders for terminal building construction will be floated soon. The overall project will take 2-3 years to complete. The project will include development of a new international civil terminal spread over 135.54 acre for full-fledged operations up to Code-4C type aircrafts as part of first phase. A Joint Venture Company (JVC) will be formed with majority stake of 51% of the Airport Authority of India and 49% of the state government thorough the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority.
