The Union Government has approved the extension of the four-lane highway from Umiam to Shillong, bypassing the Umiam Dam to enhance connectivity and reduce travel time. The project includes engaging experts to finalize the alignment, while a high-speed Greenfield corridor from Umiam to Ratacherra, estimated at ?25,000 crore, is also prioritized to ensure minimal disruption and faster travel.
