CEA Greenlights Two Major Pumped Storage Projects in Maharashtra

The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is advancing large-scale energy storage solutions for India’s power grid, recently approving two Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) in Maharashtra: the 1500 MW Bhavali PSP by JSW Energy Ltd. and the 1000 MW Bhivpuri PSP by Tata Power Co. Ltd. These approvals, supported by the Central Water Commission, Geological Survey of India, and Central Soil and Materials Research Station, were granted within 10 days of the developers submitting their Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) online. The developers plan to expedite commissioning, aiming for completion within 44 to 46 months, targeting a 2028 deadline.
