Chennai-Salem Expressway

National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is implementing the Chennai-Salem Expressway project as part of Centre sponsored Bharatmala Pariyojana. The project entails development of five critical sections namely Tambaram – Harur Section (NH-179B), Harur – Salem Section (NH-179A), Chengalpattu – Kancheepuram Section (NH-132B), Semmampadi – Chetpet Section (HN-179D) and Polur -Tiruvannamalai Section (NH-38). The expressway would be a 274 km-long, eight-lane access controlled Greenfield project. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 10,000 crore. NHAI has filed a plea with the Supreme court for early hearing of a case challenging Madras HC order quashing the land acquisition proceedings initiated for the project.
