Baira Siul is the first hydro power plant of NHPC, which is taken up for comprehensive Renovation & Modernisation (R&M). Renovation & Modernization, Uprating and Life Extension (RMU&LE) of hydro plants is a cost effective way to extend the power generation from the plant to the extended period of 20?25 years with improved reliability and availability. BHEL has recently renovated and modernised one unit of the 3×60 MW Baira Siul Hydro Power in Himachal Pradesh. The R&M of the other two units is under various stages of execution. The scope of work comprises design, manufacture, supply, replacement and commissioning of critical parts of turbines and auxiliaries, governors, generators and control and monitoring.
